How to lay Paving in Herringbone pattern
1. Prepare the Base
Start by laying a compacted sub-base using Type 1 scalpings, ensuring it’s firmly packed with a Wacker Plate. Next, apply a generous layer of cement slurry over the base to create a strong, long-lasting bond for the setts.
2. Mark the Centre
Identify and clearly mark the centre point of your patio. Use a spirit level to draw a straight guideline, then lay the first row of setts along this line to ensure precise alignment from the outset.
3. Lay the Setts
Work outward from the centre, laying the setts in a herringbone pattern. Regularly check alignment to maintain a consistent, well-structured zig-zag design throughout the area.
4. Finish the Edges
Trim any overhanging or uneven edges with a paving cutter for a clean, refined finish. Complete the installation with a suitable jointing compound, such as EasyJoint Select or a mix of sharp sand and cement, for a secure, professional result.
