Type 1 Limestone
As one of the largest Builder's Merchants in Dorset, at the Stone Zone, we are pleased to offer a huge selection of Trade range products; a range that has been expanding since our establishment in 1998. Our Type 1 Limestone are part of this top quality, great value range for both Landscapers and Builders.
Builders may refer to Type 1 Limestone as MOT Type 1; this material is widely used across Landscaping and Building projects due to its versatility. Landscapers often use MOT Type 1 for driveway sub-bases as well as sub-bases for garden paving. Builders commonly use Type 1 for building foundations and road surfaces.
Deriving naturally from stone in the Midlands, these Type 1 Aggregates are quarried in Mendip Hills and then transported to our Dorset Distribution Centre. Before it reaches our depots, it is tested and then certified for commercial use.
This MOT Type 1 Limestone is graded at 40mm to dust, as well as being screened to remove any unwanted pieces of debris.
MOT Type 1 for Landscaping
When it comes to both soft landscaping and hard landscaping, Type 1 is the perfect material to use as a sub-base.
The most popular use for MOT Type 1 is underneath garden paving; we would always recommend laying a durable yet permeable sub-base for paving, to allow Natural Stone Paving to drain nicely, preventing floods.
When it comes to laying driveways, whether you're using Decorative Stones or Shingle, you'll need a suitable sub-base for the stones to be laid on. We would recommend laying your sub-base at 50mm in depth to ensure minimal movement when you walk across or park your car.
MOT Type 1 for Building
As well as landscaping, Type 1 Aggregates are also great for sub-bases of buildings, roads and pathways.
Type 1 has similar attributes to Crushed Concrete and Aquaflow Aggregates, in the sense that they are classed as permeable aggregates. With the rise of flash floods and standing water, builders and landscapers are encouraged to use permeable aggregates where possible, to give the rain somewhere to be absorbed and then eventually taken into the ground.
The nature of Limestone itself is durable yet a 'soft stone'. Builders like working with Type 1 because it's great for filling in gaps for building foundations and sub-bases. It works particularly well when you pair it with 40mm Scalpings, as the Scalps help to compact these aggregates together.
