Each tile is rectified—precision-cut for perfectly straight, smooth edges—creating a sleek, modern appearance while making installation easier and more accurate, allowing you to calculate primer and grout requirements with confidence. Our Patterned Porcelain range draws inspiration from timeless mosaic designs, reminiscent of those found in luxury Mediterranean villas. Influenced by traditional Victorian-era geometry, the collection celebrates bold, distinctive patterns—often in striking monochrome pairings like black and white—reimagined for both indoor and outdoor use. The Valencia Beige option offers a contemporary twist, combining on-trend cream tones with clean, modern detailing for a sophisticated garden patio finish. Available in three elegant colours, each featuring its own unique geometric pattern, this range is ideal for anyone seeking a standout look. Some customers choose to lay these Victorian-style pavers across their entire patio, while others incorporate them within larger paved areas to create a striking focal point. DIY Guide: Installing a Porcelain Patio - Created by our landscaping experts at Stone Zone Step 1: Measure Your Space Precisely Start by measuring the full dimensions of your patio area, factoring in any patterns, borders, curves, or unique design elements. To find the total square metre coverage, multiply the longest width by the longest length. For accuracy and to avoid running short, we recommend ordering an extra 5% of material to account for cutting, adjustments, and potential wastage. When choosing your porcelain paving, consider both style and function—size, colour, and technical specifications all matter. Ordering online is simple: enter your required square metres or add individual tiles directly to your basket. Step 2: Prepare the Site Mark the patio layout clearly using stakes and string or spray paint. Excavate the ground to a depth of 150–200mm (6–8 inches) to allow for the sub-base, bedding mortar, and paving slabs. Maintain a slight slope (a 1:60 gradient) to ensure effective water drainage away from your property. Step 3: Lay a Strong Sub-Base Spread a 100–150mm (4–6 inch) layer of MOT Type 1 Limestone or hardcore, then compact it firmly with a wacker plate. A stable, level base is essential to prevent movement and ensure long-term durability. Step 4: Apply the Bedding Layer Mix sharp sand and cement in a 4:1 ratio to create mortar. Apply a 30mm (1–1.5 inch) thick layer over the compacted sub-base, maintaining the correct slope for drainage. This layer will securely hold your porcelain tiles in place. Step 5: Prime the Paving Slabs Before laying each porcelain tile, coat the underside with a slurry primer to improve adhesion. We recommend using Azpects EASYPrime or Ultrascape Slurry Primer for a strong, lasting bond. Step 6: Lay the Porcelain Tiles Begin at a fixed corner or straight edge. Press each tile firmly into the mortar bed, using Azpects spacers to maintain consistent 3–5mm joints. Check levels frequently with a spirit level, and lightly tap tiles into place with a rubber mallet for a smooth, even finish. Once the mortar has set (usually after 24 hours), fill the joints with a premium jointing compound such as EASYJoint. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions, particularly if water activation is required. Step 7: Final Finishing Touches Sweep the surface with a soft brush and rinse with water to remove any excess jointing compound. Allow 24–48 hours of curing before walking on your new patio or placing heavy furniture. Routine Cleaning – Sweep often and rinse occasionally with a garden hose or a light pressure wash to keep your paving fresh. Use Gentle Cleaners – Skip harsh chemicals; instead, opt for mild detergents to protect both the tiles and the grout. By following this guide, you’ll achieve a flawless, professional porcelain paving installation that adds lasting beauty and value to your outdoor space.Read More...
