The Angers range also incorporates ADVANCE® technology, a lab-developed innovation designed specifically for commercial environments like gyms and swimming pools. This cutting-edge surface treatment offers antibacterial and antiviral protection, actively preventing the growth of micro-organisms—without the need for harsh chemical cleaners, making it a more eco-conscious choice. Available in three elegant shades, all Angers tiles share the same striking silver-veined pattern, echoing the natural beauty of slate with a contemporary twist. Whether used indoors or outside, the seamless design creates a fluid transition from your home to your garden—perfect for open-plan living or extending entertaining spaces outdoors. 1. Plan Your Space Start by measuring the area where your patio will go. Multiply the longest width by the longest length to calculate the square meterage required. Always add an extra 5% to account for cuts and potential breakage. When choosing your porcelain tiles, consider both aesthetic and practical features such as size, colour, and slip rating. Ordering is simple on our website—just enter the square metres needed or add tiles individually to your basket. 2. Prepare the Ground Mark out the area using stakes and string or spray paint. Then dig down to a depth of 150–200mm (6–8 inches) to allow for your sub-base, mortar bed, and tiles. Be sure to include a slight gradient (1:60 fall) to help rainwater drain away from buildings. 3. Lay the Sub-Base Cover the area with 100–150mm (4–6 inches) of MOT Type 1 Limestone or compacted hardcore. Use a wacker plate to compact the base thoroughly and create a stable, even foundation. 4. Prepare the Bedding Mortar Mix a 4:1 ratio of sharp sand to cement to create your mortar. Spread a 30mm (1–1.5 inch) layer of mortar over the compacted base, maintaining your drainage slope as you go. 5. Prime the Porcelain Tiles Apply a slurry primer (such as Ultrascape Slurry Primer) to the back of each tile just before laying. This ensures a strong bond between the tile and mortar bed—especially important for non-porous porcelain. 6. Lay the Paving Slabs Begin in one corner and press each tile firmly into place, using a rubber mallet to level them out. Maintain a 3–5mm gap between slabs with spacers for accurate, uniform jointing. Check your work regularly with a spirit level to maintain a consistent surface. 7. Joint the Tiles After the mortar has cured (usually around 24 hours), fill the joints using a suitable jointing compound like EASYJoint, following the product’s instructions. Some jointing products may need activating with water. 8. Final Cleaning & Curing Use a soft brush and clean water to remove any remaining compound or dust. Allow the patio to fully cure for 24–48 hours before walking on it or placing furniture. Ongoing Maintenance Tips Regular Sweeping: Keep the surface clear of debris to prevent staining and weed growth. Light Cleaning: Use a hose or pressure washer occasionally to refresh the surface. Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Stick to mild detergents to protect the tile finish and jointing material.Read More...
