How to install GrassMac

Professional Installation Requirement

GrassMac is a specialist resin-based sub-base system that must be installed by a fully trained and approved professional landscaper. Precise mixing ratios, correct ground preparation, and proper application techniques are critical to achieving the intended structural performance. Expert installation ensures effective drainage, long-term stability, and full compliance with manufacturer specifications and warranty conditions. Attempting a DIY installation or using unqualified contractors can compromise the strength, permeability, and durability of the finished surface.

Health & Safety Guidance

When working with GrassMac materials, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) should always be worn, including heavy-duty gloves, eye protection, and suitable protective clothing. The resin binder must not come into direct contact with skin prior to curing. Mixing and installation should take place in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling fumes. In the event of accidental contact, refer immediately to the manufacturer’s safety data sheet and follow the recommended procedures. Adhering to proper health and safety practices ensures both a safe installation process and a high-quality, long-lasting result.

Preparation & Base Build-Up

1. Excavate the area to the required depth and remove all debris from the subsoil.
2. Install a geotextile membrane across the entire area, starting from the furthest edge of the perimeter.
3. Lay and compact 125mm of MOT Type 3 Limestone to create a stable, free-draining sub-base.
4. Optional: Apply a 25mm capping layer of 5–10mm angular stone (such as 10mm Basalt Chippings) for enhanced levelling.
5. Install the SRM (Structural Reinforcement Mesh) to form the structural framework of the system.

Applying GrassMac

1. Spread the GrassMac mixture evenly to a depth of approximately 20mm using a lute.
2. Allow curing for 2–4 hours. Once set, the surface is ready for artificial grass installation as normal.
