Raj Green Sandstone Walling
The Fernlea Sandstone Walling is the perfect addition to your home if you are looking to create a vintage and traditional atmosphere in your garden or property.
Ferlea Sandstone, often referred to as Raj Green Sandstone, is one of our most popular Sandstone Paving options, which reflects on the Walling as well because the Fernlea Walling is a much-loved option among our customers. The Fernlea Walling is made up of a variety of light brown and tan shades, which is a classic and popular choice that is favoured by those looking to create a traditional look.
We take extra steps to ensure that our Sandstone and Limestone Walling is procured ethically, directly from our sources in India. As a result of our direct communication with our suppliers, we are able to offer the best rates and competitive prices to our customers.
Due to the fact that these stones were developed in India, they possess all the features that natural Sandstone does, such as their permeability and ability to absorb rainwater. This quality is helpful specifically for homes that do not have a good drainage system because the sandstone will help prevent any water retention.
As stated above, a reason why Sandstone Walling is so in-demand is its visual appearance. The Fernlea Sandstone has a lovely range of brown shades scattered throughout the walling, exuding a warm, vintage look. Since the walling is derived from natural stone, they have been cut to size from even larger stones that develop in India. This also means that the colours can vary and will always differ from other walling you may have come across. This is what makes Sandstone special, no one piece is the same which will therefore give your garden a one-of-a-kind look.
As we have mentioned before, the walling segments have a pitched face and are required to be cut into usable sizes before they are exported. This leads to the edges of the walling being far smoother and uniform. Please keep in mind that the textures of the surface of the wall will vary alongside their thickness. They also have a grooved look to them that enhances their appeal.
Fernlea Raj Green Sandstone Walling for Your Garden
If you are in search of an effective exterior wall that will fence off your garden, our Fernlea Sandstone Walling is an excellent option. When stationed securely, the Fernlea Natural Stone Walling is durable enough to last for many years, even under rough weather conditions. As opposed to wooden fences, our composite fences do not show signs of wear and tear as easily as real wood fences do, and therefore do not need replacing as frequently.
The Raj Green Walling is a great choice no matter the size of your wall, it is adaptable to both large and smaller walls so you can rest assured that these wallings will provide proper protection irrespective of the size of your garden. This also gives your more options and design choices for how tall you want your wall to be which will enable you to create a garden that is unique to you.
Moreover, another way you can use the Fernlea Walling is as a low-level stone wall and to use it as a retaining plant bed for borders around your garden. Decorating your garden with elevated plants around borders adds more dimension and levels to your garden that not only make it easier to maintain but also provide protection from animals.
Finally, another way to utilise the Fernlea Walling is to install them around your front garden to warden off the area and add some more privacy. You can achieve this by installing a stone fence with a gate in it, this works well with properties that have a large front garden or driveway.

How to Build a Stone Wall
After you have bought your sandstone Walling, it is good practice to sift through each individual piece and arrange them based on their size and colour variation. Doing this means you are prepared and ready for installation.
Please make sure that you have a stable and solid foundation for the base of your stone wall. For the majority of the time, the width of the foundation should be three times the width of your wall. For walls with sizing between 650mm and 1500mm in height, a concrete foundation will be sufficient for this.
We think the best practice is to dig your foundation 300mm deep, this makes sure that you have dug deep enough to reach firm soils rather than top solid which is much harder to keep steady. Once you have completed the foundation, give it time to cure before you start installing your wall on top of it.
Once the foundation is ready to use, create a mortar mix to start laying your stone walling in a brick fashion. For this mortar mix, use the ratio 1:5 or 1:6 of Cement : Building Sand. Combine this while gradually adding water until you get the appropriate consistency.
Using a string line and chalk, mark the position you'd like the wall to be in. You can then start to carefully install your walling pieces in place.
Lay a bed of mortar along the chalk line on the foundation; enough to fit four or five walling pieces. Once you've laid your first walling piece, take your next piece and apply the mortar mix to the end, to create the joint between the first two pieces.
Use a rubber mallet to tap the pieces down and ensure you're checking the levels with the spirit level. Repeat horizontally until you reach the end of the first walling layer, and if you're happy with it, continue upwards.
