What is 'Granite' Paving?
Granite Stone are natural stones that are even in texture and tightly grained. We machine cut the surface of these patio slabs with a sawn in order to achieve uniformed and clean line within the joins, and to also ensure that we a get a shiny and smooth finish.
These natural stones are a popular option due to their hardwearing exterior and dense interior qualities. They have such aspects because they derive naturally and are cut from crystalline and granular rock.
Because of the nature of the paving stones, they are a great option for both homes and commercial settings. And don't be fooled by the shiny finish, the paving is certified with an R11 non-slip value, ensuring that even when wet, they are safe to walk on.
Laying Dusky Grey Granite Paving
Charlie Says: We recommend laying our sawn paving slabs on a full mortar bed and slurrying the back of the stone as you would with porcelain paving. Sealing Granite stones is optional but we would recommend doing this to protect the colour and prevent staining. We also suggest laying this paving in a sunny spot of the garden that isn't obstructed by trees.
Looking After Your Paving
In order to make life stress free, we recommend you seal your paving with Azpects Easy Seal Stone Sealer & Protector - this way, you can rest assured that the colour of your paving will be retained.
We strongly advise that you jet wash your paving twice a year to make sure that it stays nice and clean.
What is the Difference Between Granite and Sandstone Paving?
There are some shared aspects between Granite and Sandstone Paving. Most notably they are both natural stones, therefore will be varied and inconsistent in colour and shades and will also change gradually over time, and finally they both exude a more classic, vintage look.
As we have mentioned before, the same as our Granite paving, we also calibrate our Sandstone to 22mm thickness to make them consistent and durable.
Although, where Sandstone Paving is often hand sawn and more rustic, Granite paving slabs have been through a much more complicated process - namely the fact that they have been machine cut to make sure the edges are even and smooth; and they have also been honed to give them a more polished look.
Because of all the extra steps that have gone into creating Granite Paving, they are the higher-calibre paving option. They definitely exude a more deluxe and opulent look, quite similar to Porcelain Paving. Therefore, in comparison, Sandstone has a much more muted and traditional look.
It is also important know that Granite is quite a dense natural stone because they are tight-grained in texture, which leads them to withstand heavy footfall and traffic, much more so when compared to Sandstone Paving.
Similar to Sandstone Paving, Granite will also discolour due to the weather causing changes to the colour and surface texture of the paving. However, if you prefer a paving that is better at maintaining its colour and texture for a longer period of time, then maybe look into Porcelain Paving, which is a manufactured paving and is therefore more resistant to the weather and footfall.
