How to Lay 20mm, Cotswold Buff, in Your Garden
If you are thinking about getting the 20mm Cotswold Buff Chippings to decorate your garden with or to elevate your current feature areas, we have created a little guide especially to give you an idea of what it would be like to take on the project of laying them yourself.
The most common and proven method to start this project is to create a stable base using Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, which is a graded, 40mm Limestone. This develops into a cushion base for your stones to go on, making it extra stable.
The first step is to go out and decide where you want the stones to go and then carefully measure them out. You can then visit our website and use our Quantity Calculator, which will work out how much base material and 20mm Cotswold Buff chippings you will need to create your feature area. We suggest having a base that will cover 50mm in depth.
Once you are confident with how much material you require, you can start digging. It's recommended to dig deep enough to have the right amount of space for 50mm worth of the Limestone and 50mm worth of the 20mm Cotswold Buff Chippings.
Once you have done so, you can now add the Limestone to the dug-out area, and make sure to add 50mm's worth of stones into the area. By adding the Limestones you are making sure that the feature area will be stable and have a good drainage system.
Although this step is only optional, we think it's best practice for your garden, in the long run, to add Weed Fabric underneath the garden stones. The worst outcome would be that weeds start popping out of your brand new garden feature, so to prevent such a thing from occurring and to keep your garden looking pristine, we suggest you purchase strong Weed Fabric, which will inhibit the growth and spread of weeds throughout your feature. At Stone Zone, we stock a wide range of Weed Fabric in different sizes so you can go with the one that fits your garden the best.
And finally, once the fabric has been laid, you can lay out your 20mm Flamingo Chippings. Again, please remember to add enough garden stones to fill a 50mm depth area.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.
