Shingle 10mm
At Stone Zone, the 10mm Shingle is much loved by both our customers and landscapes, for a variety of reasons. These stones are adaptable and versatile and can be used in areas such as driveways, paths, pods and garden borders.
These Shingles are comprised of white, grey, brown and gold pieces. These colours are so popular because they can fit the aesthetic of many different hopes no matter whether your home has an old-fashioned red brick exterior or if it's a more modern home with shades of black and white.
Our natural Shingle are available in a wide range of sizes including 6mm, 14mm, 20mm and 40mm.
10mm Shingle Features
- Suitable for borders and feature areas
- Fish-friendly and suitable for ponds
- Perfect for mixing with other products to create a sturdy sub-base
- Appropriate for back-filling drains
Shingle 10mm for Feature Areas
10mm Shingles are not the optimal size to be used on driveways, as they are too small in size, we think the 14mm Shingle and up are the most appropriate for the driveways and walkways due to them being able to lock together better, which in turn creates a more secure surface to stand or drive on. Since the 10mm is too small they are not ideal for creating a stable driveway for your home.
Shingle 10mm for Gardens
Although Shingle is commonly used on driveways, they are more than appropriate for gardens as well.
Shingle 10mm is also a cost-effective method for creating a beautiful pathway either within your garden or around your home. Following the same rules as for the driveway, the natural stones gather and lock together tightly to develop a stable and durable platform appropriate for foot traffic.
Finally, Shingle is also a great option if you want to create a bright and eye-catching border for your garden. Rather than having it plain and dull, you can add pops of colour with the shingle so more eyes will be drawn to them. You may even want to use them to create unique plant displays to create decoration pieces.
10mm Shingle helps with retaining moisture for plants, keeping them hydrated during the Summer months, but they also pack in insulation during the winter.

How to Lay a Shingle Driveway
Laying down a 10mm Shingle is quite a simple task and can be easily achieved if you have DIY experience and are looking for a project to get your hands into. If you want to tackle this, then read through our little handy guide to get you started.
Creating a stable and durable driveway will need an appropriate base, to achieve this, we suggest using Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, which is a graded, 40mm Limestone.
Before getting stuck in, carefully measure out your driveway area where you want to store the Shingle. Feel free to use our useful Quantity Calculator to figure out the amount of Type 1 you require. We recommend that you have a base of 50mm.
Start by digging out the area you want the shingle to go in. Dig deep enough, between 50-150mm, and make sure that the 50mm includes space for the MOT Type 1 base and 50mm for the Shingle.
Although it's optional, you can also add a Grid Stabiliser, which is useful in an area that gets a lot of foot and vehicular traffic. Long drives and private roads especially benefit from these.
Go ahead and add 40mm Limestone Type 1 to the area you have dug out and make sure that at least 50mm is laid at a minimum. This results in a durable base and will help a lot with drainage.
We advise that you also implement a layer of Weed Fabric to safeguard against unwanted weeds. We supply weed fabric in a multitude of sizes so you can choose the one that is best for your garden.
And finally, once you have securely laid the fabric, you can start dropping in your 10mm Shingle down. Again. please remember to add enough Shingle to cover at least 50mm of depth.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.
