Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Resin Bound Surfacing

1. Ground Preparation

If there is no suitable existing base, excavate the area to a minimum depth of 100mm. Lay approximately 30mm of MOT Type 1 limestone to create a stable and reliable foundation for your resin bound surface.

2. Laying and Compacting Hardcore

Spread the hardcore evenly across the prepared area. Level it carefully, then compact thoroughly using a plate compactor (such as a Wacker Plate) to form a solid sub-base capable of supporting heavy traffic.

3. Installing Structural Reinforcement Mesh (SRM)

For driveways, pathways, or other load-bearing surfaces, place the first sheet of SRM reinforcement mesh and trim to fit neatly. This adds essential structural strength to your resin bound system.

4. Applying the VubaMac Base

Roll out the VubaMac base layer using a heavy-duty roller (available from VUBA). Follow the manufacturer’s instructions closely for mixing and application to ensure a strong, durable foundation.

5. Adding a Second Layer of SRM

Once the base layer is set, place a second sheet of SRM mesh over the surface. Allow at least one hour of curing so the layers chemically bond, creating a resilient system suitable for vehicles and heavy-use areas.

6. Mixing the Resin Bound Aggregate Blend

Using a forced-action mixer, combine the resin binder, decorative aggregates, and binding quartz until the mixture is fully uniform. Transfer the blend into a lined wheelbarrow to make application easier.

7. Trowelling and Finishing the Surface

Work in small, manageable sections, applying the resin bound mix evenly. Use firm, consistent strokes with a steel trowel to smooth and level the surface.
