Power washing is effective, but ensure the lance is held at a 90-degree angle and kept at least 300mm away to prevent disturbing the aggregates.

Oil, Dirt & Debris

Oil spills, particularly from lubricants or fuel, can quickly penetrate the surface. Clean spills promptly with an absorbent material to prevent staining. For tougher stains, an emulsifying degreaser works well. Avoid using harsh solvents for extended periods, and consult VUBA for advice on difficult stains.

Weeds, Moss & Lichen

A permeable membrane beneath the resin surface helps block weed growth from below, though weeds may still appear on the surface. These can be easily removed with a jet wash. In shaded or tree-covered areas, moss, lichen, or algae may develop—use appropriate treatments, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Fruit, Berries & Leaves

Fallen fruit and leaves can stain resin surfaces if not promptly removed. Clean up quickly to avoid discolouration. For existing stains, prepare a mixture of 1.5 litres of sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), 4.5 litres of water, and 100ml of a non-oxidising shampoo, such as baby shampoo. Apply evenly, scrub gently with a stiff brush, and rinse thoroughly, ensuring runoff doesn’t affect nearby plants.

Rust & Tyre Marks

Rust can develop from metal items like BBQs or hanging baskets, or from naturally occurring pyrite in the aggregates. While rare, rust from pyrite can form when exposed to moisture. Use a non-acidic rust remover as per the manufacturer’s instructions to treat rust stains. Tyre marks are generally removed with steam cleaning or scrubbing with hot water and detergent.
