Cleaning Practices

Regular cleaning of your VUBA resin-bound surface is essential, especially for lighter colours where dirt is more visible. Resin-bound surfaces can be power washed, but it's recommended to hold the lance at a 90-degree angle, maintaining a distance of at least 300mm from the surface. Getting too close may dislodge the aggregates.

Oil, Dirt & Detritus

Oil spills, particularly from lubricating or fuel oils, can penetrate hard surfaces quickly. Prompt removal with an absorbent material will prevent staining. If the stain persists, an emulsifying degreaser should be used. Avoid prolonged contact with solvents, and if needed, contact VUBA for guidance on removing stubborn stains.

Weeds, Moss & Lichen

A permeable membrane beneath the surface helps prevent weed growth from below. Without it, weeds may penetrate the resin surface. Weeds can also grow on top of the resin, but they can be easily removed with jet washing. Moss, lichen, and algae can form on surfaces in shaded or tree-covered areas. These should be treated with appropriate products following the manufacturer's instructions.

Fruit, Berries, and Leaves

Fruits and leaves can stain any paving, including resin surfaces. Prompt removal is key to avoiding stains. For areas that are already soiled, a cleaning mixture of liquid sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) and a non-oxidising shampoo like baby shampoo is recommended. Dilute 1.5 litres of sodium hypochlorite with 4.5 litres of water and add 100ml of baby shampoo. Use a pump spray to apply the solution across the surface, then scrub gently with a stiff-bristle brush. After 15 minutes, rinse the surface thoroughly, ensuring the runoff doesn't affect surrounding vegetation.

Rusting & Tyre Marks

Rust can develop from metal garden items like BBQs or hanging baskets, or from naturally occurring pyrite in the aggregates of the resin. While rare, rusting from pyrite can occur when exposed to moisture. Rust stains can be treated with a non-acidic rust remover, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Tyre marks are generally removable through steam cleaning or scrubbing with detergent and hot water.
