Resin bound surfacing is a premium paving solution that combines natural decorative stones—such as quartz, gravel, and marble—with a UV-stable, high-performance resin. Expertly mixed and hand-trowelled, it creates a smooth, seamless, and fully permeable finish that allows rainwater to drain away naturally. Ideal for driveways, patios, and pathways, resin bound paving offers: We supply two specialist binders, designed to deliver lasting results in all conditions: For the majority of UK installations, the UV-Stable Resin Binder is the recommended choice—providing vibrant colour, exceptional strength, and long-term peace of mind. Binding Quartz is a premium additive that enhances both the appearance and durability of resin bound surfaces. Its fine, translucent particles blend seamlessly with aggregates to create a smooth finish and subtle, eye-catching sheen. By eliminating dry or sandy patches, Binding Quartz ensures a flawless, professional look—delivering a long-lasting, high-quality surface every time. For all VUBA installations, we strongly recommend hiring a VUBA-trained professional. Stone Zone depots run training sessions throughout the year, and certified installers are able to validate the 25-year VUBA guarantee. VUBA Resin Bound Aggregates can be laid directly onto an existing tarmac or asphalt driveway. However, for the best results, we recommend installing your surface onto the award-winning VubaMac base system. 1. Ground Preparation If no tarmac or asphalt is in place, excavate the area to a depth of at least 100mm. Add a 30mm layer of MOT Type 1 Limestone as a stable sub-base. 2. Compacting the Base Spread your hardcore aggregate evenly across the excavated area. Compact the surface with a Wacker Plate or similar compactor to achieve a firm, level base. 3. First Layer of SRM For driveways, lay down the first sheet of Structural Reinforcement Mesh (SRM), cutting it to size as needed. SRM is available in multiple sizes to suit your project. 4. Installing the VubaMac Base Mix and lay your VubaMac base using a heavy-duty roller (available from the VUBA website). For installation tips, refer to our detailed VubaMac guide. 5. Second Layer of SRM Add a second layer of SRM on top of the VubaMac base. Allow the base to cure for around 1 hour. During this time, the SRM will chemically bond to the VubaMac, ensuring long-lasting strength for both pedestrian and vehicle use. 6. Mixing Your Resin Kit Once the base is cured, prepare your chosen VUBA resin kit mix. Using a heavy-duty mixer, combine the Resin Binder, Aggregates, and Binding Quartz. Decant the mix into a lined wheelbarrow, ready for application. 7. Laying the Resin Bound Surface Using a trowel and firm pressure, spread the resin mix in small sections. Continue trowelling and smoothing until the entire area is covered, leaving a seamless, durable resin bound surface that enhances any modern property. We recommend installing your Resin Surfaces on VUBA VubaMac Base; which provides over 50% higher strength than asphalt.Read More...
