1. Visit the Broadchurch filming location!
If you’re a fan of the 2013 British drama starring Olivia Colman and David Tennant, you’ll love visiting West Bay; the costal town and beach in which this series was filmed!
You’ll instantly recognise the long, steep hill that takes you to the breath-taking cliff tops. Don’t forget to get your phone out and take some selfies where the stars would have been themselves!
2. Take a trip to the beach
West Bay is the most popular beach to visit in the area, and when you visit, it will not disappoint. With a harbour full of fisherman, stalls and markets on the weekend, and a variety of fish and chip shops, you’ll have plenty to look at and take part in.
The kids will love the arcades and the fun fairs that are there in the summer. And for those older children or adventure-seeking adults, why not book a RIB ride along the famous Jurassic Coast? For a tamer sea experience, West Bay canoes is a great option!
3. Sample some local food and drinks
Bridport and West Bay are famous for (and very proud of) their locally-produced ale, wine and cider. See how they are made and buy some for yourselves!
The Furleigh Wine Estate is a popular place to visit for tourists and locals alike; running interesting tours and tasting events for all those wine-lovers among us. Their vineyard is just outside of Bridport and produces award-winning wines.
Dating back to as far as 1794 is Palmers Brewery. Visit this beautiful, thatched building on a brewery tour and sample some of their ale. This ale can be purchased at the brewery to take home!
Last but not least is the Dorset Nectar organic apple orchard. This is a great one for drinkers and non-drinkers as it features ciders, juices and hot drinks. Take a tour and explore this stunning orchard and the 13 varieties of ciders they produce.
4. Brush up on Bridport history and heritage
If you love learning about the history of Dorset towns, you’ll love the Bridport museum! Children get in for free and adults are only £5.
Bridport is famous for rope and net making, Jurassic fossils, and Iron age coins dating back hundreds of years. Come to this interactive museum come rain or shine and have a great time!
