The award-winning Grove Hotel is one of the UK’s only dedicated hotels for cancer patients and those suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Owned and operated by Macmillan Caring Locally based in Christchurch, this non-profit organisation is another way of extending their support and offering a welcome retreat for those who need and deserve it.

The Grove Hotel is a safe and luxurious space that offers guests stunning views across Bournemouth beach with entertainment and excursions. The hard working and caring volunteers do their best to make guests feel welcome and comfortable, offering a relaxing escape. They also now offer a service where guests can renew their wedding vows.

Helping in 2016 with a green waste muckaway

Dorset Soils and Aggregates have previously helped The Grove Hotel by carrying out a muckaway for lots of green waste that had been cleared away by the volunteers that had worked really hard on maintaining their beautiful outdoor spaces. It was our pleasure to take one of our drivers with our grab lorry to the hotel and meet some of the incredible staff members, who were very grateful for the help.

On Monday 14th October, our Sales Executive, Alison, arranged for one of our drivers, Andy A.K.A Nipper, to take one of our large grab-away lorries to pick up and remove all of the Grove’s green waste products to ensure a clean and tidy garden area. Working alongside Eco Sustainable Solutions, Alison then arranged for the green waste to be recycled at their green waste plant.

After this took place, Andy stayed and helped the volunteers with any other tasks that needed carrying out.

It was a pleasure to be able to help this incredible organisation, completely free of charge, and see how much it meant to the volunteers, the gardeners and the guests. We have since heard back from the volunteers’ coordinator, Lucy, who has expressed her appreciation and mentioned how the volunteers feel really ‘valued’ and can ‘really see the benefits for the patients’.
