School Soil Donation

Soil Donation

Here at Stone Zone, we love giving back to our local community, and are always looking for ways to inspire children to be more productive outdoors and there's no better way to do that than planting their own fruits vegetables or even flowers! This is why in March we announced that we are doing a soil giveaway to local schools because we wanted to encourage children to plant their own flowers and herbs and to grow fresh fruits and vegetables!

We reached out to the winning schools at the end of March so they would be able to receive their soil just in time for Spring and Summer. The aim of this giveaway was to inspire and encourage young children and to show them how fun and rewarding gardening and planting can be, and since the weather is finally starting to warm up, it is now the ideal time for these activities!

The Competition

In early March, we announced on our Facebook page and website that we will be holding a soil giveaway for local schools within the Dorset and Hampshire area. The only requirement was to comment underneath the post nominating their chosen school and to write a few sentences explaining why they should be chosen; tag a friend within their post and finally share the post! We opened this competition to everyone so school staff or parents could nominate a school. We were amazed to see all the comments and nominations our post received!

There were a plethora of comments and shares nominating so many different schools within the local area ranging from primary schools to playgroups. Many parents and school employees all shared the same sentiment of wanting to engage the children to do more outdoor activities, learn more about the food they eat and learn about growing their own food!

Wessex® BS3882 10mm Soil

We wanted to choose a soil that will give your plants and produce the best chance to grow, one that is rich in nourishment and of the highest quality. It was important for us to provide the best possible soil so it will be one less thing for the children to worry about!

We chose a selection of local schools to donate our Wessex® BS3882 10mm Soil to and are very happy to see that they have been well received!

We chose to donate our Wessex® BS3882 10mm Soil because our Wessex 10mm is a blend of high quality local British Standard topsoil and PAS 100 green compost. Our Wessex 10mm soil is tested in accordance to a BS3882: 2015 – A copy of our test analysis is available on request.

The PH for this is between 7.5-8.5 and is not treated with any additives. Particle sizes run from a 10mm down and is suitable for general landscaping uses including turf laying and seeding. Ideal for the children to start planting!

The Schools

The children from Chewton Common Playgroup have been busy moving the soil into their raised beds, already utilising the soil! They also seem to be enjoying the bulk bags!

Little Fountain Preschool have just recently opened their outdoor area which is currently a blank canvas which they want to fill up. The children are excited to have access to a planting/growing area where they can get involved and learn about growing produce, which will be a great hands on experience for them to learn and develop skills in an outdoor environment.

All of us here at Stone Zone is really excited to see all the amazing planting projects where our soil will be used in the future for the rest of the schools! We will definitely keep our social media pages updated We hope the schools and the children put our soil to good use!
