Charlie McCabe

Bournemouth Branch Manager

Contact: charlie@dorsetsoils.co.uk

Charlie is proud to have been working for this company for 8 years now. Our Bournemouth branch first opened in November 2017, until that point, Charlie had been working as a customer advisor in Ferndown for 6 years, and leapt at the chance to become the Depot manager. Being the only staff member to run this store, Charlie has to ensure customer service is the core of his position, whether it’s speaking over the phone, helping customers load their car or having orders ready for collection. His excellent product knowledge and cheeky sense of humour is definitely the reason for his positive feedback and returning customers!

What’s your favourite part of the job?

The best part of my job is when a customer walks up the steps into our display area with absolutely no idea of what they want or how to achieve it. From the moment they see the display you can see their ideas beginning to formulate and grow. Working with them and explaining about the products we sell and how best to use them, and then when they choose the final products with a clear idea in mind of what they want. The whole process can take weeks or even months with repeated visits means you get to know the customer and what they want, by the time the job is completed I’m often on first name terms with them and when you see pictures of the finished project it gives immense satisfaction knowing I played a small part in helping them achieve their goal.

What’s your favourite product we sell?

Sorrell sandstone. It’s a natural sandstone which has a warm feel to it with a mixture of buff and purple colours and a natural Strata through the stone which looks great when its dry but really comes to life like a rainbow through the stone when its wet.

What’s your favourite colour?

Turquoise

What would your dream garden look like?

I believe that a garden is an extension of the home, so in order to achieve my perfect garden Id have to knock the back wall out of the house and replace it with Massive floor to ceiling windows so that when I looked out first thing in the morning Id be looking at either a totally secluded garden surrounded by trees, or open fields, not overlooked by any other houses. I’d be looking at a beautiful patio with furniture, manicured lawn with colourful planted beds and borders. It would have to have an outside kitchen and entertainment area to enjoy with friends and family  and an area left to go wild to attract an array of wild life with an old tractor sat in the corner, also a swimming pool to cool off in after a hard days gardening would be nice.

If you could have any super power what would it be?

This is a good question and one which my family and I regularly discuss. I’m a massive Marvel and DC comics fan so choosing a superpower is really difficult, but after long consideration I think Id have the super soldier powers of Captain America (Steve Rogers). Not so much because I want to tackle the evil forces of Hydra but more so that I could split a log with my bare hands (a scene that I regularly recreate every time I’m chopping logs in the garden) or hold down a helicopter while admiring My Biceps. My kids will probably say that there’s much better superpowers I could have chosen!!

If you won a million pounds, what would you do with it?

I’d invest in bricks and mortar, buying a property and creating my dream garden as mentioned above, I reckon that the million would be gone by the end of the project so Id still be turning up to work on Monday morning!!

Charlie can be found monkeying around somewhere in our Bournemouth Depot!
