Our 20mm Ice Blue Chippings are a mix of light blues and greys, making them understated yet very attractive. One thing to keep in mind when purchasing these chippings is that they are not fish friendly, therefore we would advise you to not use them in a fishpond.

How to Install Chippings on your Driveway

Laying down the 20mm Ice Blue Chippings to create a driveway is not a particularly difficult job. If you have some experience in DIY-ing, you may even be able to complete it on your own. If you want to tackle this project, we have some tips for you to consider.

As a general rule of thumb, it’s best to create the most stable base possible for your garden stones to lay on. To achieve this, the product we recommend is Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, which is a graded, 40mm Limestone. 

Proceed to measure your driveway and the area you'd like to lay your stones on. Once you have all the information, visit our website and use the Quantity Calculator, which will work out how much of the base material and decorative stone you will need to complete your project. We recommend you have enough base material to fill up a depth of 50mm.

When digging out the area for your driveway, make sure to dig to a depth ranging between 50mm to 150mm. You must dig enough to cover 50mm's worth of the Limestone Type 1 and your Ice Blue Chippings, each. 

Proceed to add your Limestone to the dugout area - again make sure this layer is 50mm deep. This will aid in providing a secure base and also help with drainage when it rains. 

To go along with your base layer, we also suggest you install a layer of Weed Fabric to make sure that no unwanted weeds sprout through the chippings. The fabric will ensure that your driveway is constantly looking fresh. We stock Weed Fabric in a wide range of sizes so you can choose which ones will be best for you.

Once you have laid your Limestone and your Weed Fabric, you are finally ready to lay down your Ice Blue Chippings. Please remember to add enough chippings to make it 50mm deep.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.
