What is the Difference Between Slate Paving and Sandstone Paving?
There are a few similarities between Slate and Sandstone Paving. Most notably, they are both naturally derived from stone quarries. This means that they share some similar aspects, such as they both come in unique, unpredictable shades, they have riven surfaces and both equally long-lasting.
Regardless, please keep in mind that even though Slate Paving is naturally derived, it is still a different type of natural stone in comparison to Sandstone and Limestone. Sandstone and Limestone are formed in grains and are more brittle than Slate, they possess such qualities because they are sedimentary stones. on the contrary Slate Stones are in layers making them more durable but less porous - these are qualities of metamorphic stones.
One of the benefits of Slate Paving is the fact that when compared to Limestone, Slate is more capable of maintaining its colour and brightness, especially if its in a darker colour. Moreover, Slate is an extremely durable paving, which makes it the ideal option for indoor uses such as flooring, and outdoor uses such a driveways, walkways and gardens. We can guarantee that Slate is able to withstand a lot of strain.
It is important for you to remember that you need to hire professionals to lay Slate Paving. And also be aware of the fact that the paving slabs may start to chip slightly in extreme weather - this occurs because slate paving is formed in layers.

What is 'Slate' Paving?
The Slate Paving that we supply, including the Grey Slate Paving, are all part of the Premium Sandstone Collection. We categorise them in such a way because the paving slabs we supply are manufactured to a very high standard, they are machine cut to make sure that they are as even and consistent as possible and will also guarantee that the edges are smooth and sharp.
You will notice that slate paving have a heavily textured and riven surface; this leads to the colouring of the paving stones to be even more vivid - especially when wet. Slate Paving also goes through a splitting process when they are cut from stone - this cutting method is a major reason for the paving's texture.
Looking After Your Paving
Do note that Slate Paving is a long-term investment, and because of this we assume that you want to maintain it as best as possible. We recommend you seal your paving using Azpects Easy Seal Slate & Limestone. This seal ensures that the colour of your paving is vivid and retains for a long time.
If you want to protect your paving and give it the best chance against the weather, discolouration and just general wear and tear, the Easy Seal is your best option.
