What is 'Slate' Paving?

Slate Paving Stones, like all of our other natural pavers, are derived directly from Indian quarries, making them known as Indian Slate Paving. These paving slabs have been cut from larger pieces of slate stone that may have been around for thousands of years. Slate stone naturally obtains superior durability and strength, making it a great, long-lasting investment.

What is the Difference Between Slate Paving and Sandstone Paving?

There are a few similarities, and also differences between Slate Paving and our best-selling Sandstone Paving. Most notably, they are both naturally derived from Indian stone quarries. This means that each batch we receive from the manufacturer will vary in colour slightly. This makes them both a great choice if you're wanting to create a natural landscape.

Regardless, please keep in mind that even though Slate Paving is naturally derived, it is still a different type of natural stone in comparison to Sandstone and Limestone. Sandstone and Limestone are formed in grains and are more brittle than Slate, this is because they are sedimentary stones. In contrast, Slate Paving Stones are formed in layers, as they are metamorphic stones; making them more durable and less porous.

One of the benefits of Slate Paving is the fact that when compared to Limestone, Slate is more capable of maintaining its colour and brightness, especially if its in a darker colour. Moreover, Slate is an extremely durable paving, which makes it the ideal option for indoor uses such as flooring, and outdoor uses such as pathways and gardens. We can guarantee that Slate is able to withstand a lot of strain.

Lastly, Slate Paving slabs have a slightly smoother surface than Sandstone and Limestone, which are a riven paving stone.

Please note that Slate Paving is a long-term investment; to maintain it as best as possible, we recommend you seal your paving using Azpects Easy Seal Slate & Limestone. This paving sealer ensures that the colour of your paving is vivid and retains for a long time.

It is best practice you jet wash your paving twice a year to make sure that you wash away in dirt and debris that may have gathered there.
