Bunker/Leisure Sand
The very light beige tones of the Bunker/Leisure Sand is an adaptable, medium soft-ness sand, making it ideal for golf courses, sports pitches and sandpits. As a result of their particular texture, they are a great option for heavy-duty use in areas that get a lot of foot traffic. As the name suggests, Leisure Sand can be used in parks and recreational areas without any risks.
Bunker Sand as the name insinuates is the number one choice of sand for golf bunkers - the dipped areas within a golf course. According to golf course experts and landscapers, Bunker Sand has the optimal size and texture for golf balls to land on. The Bunker Sand is also more than appropriate for use in schools and within sports areas, for example, long jump pits, play areas, and more. Our sand is washed and graded and therefore safe to be used commercially and domestically.
Bunker/Leisure Sand for Sand Pits and Play Areas
As we have stated above, the Bunker/Leisure Sand is suitable to be used in children's playgrounds and sandpits. They can be used in these environments because they have a softer texture, making them perfect for children to handle and play on. To make matters better, the Bunker Sand is a part of our Value Range, which means you will be able to purchase large quantities to cover a lot of ground without breaking the bank.
Some more attributes that make the Bunker Sand ideal for play areas are that they are non-toxic and non-staining therefore you can rest assured that your children will not be exposed to anything that will cause them harm or make any marks on their clothing. This, again, makes Bunker Sand a great overall choice to use in sandpits and parks.
Bunker/Leisure Sand for Golf Bunkers
You will have noticed that in large golf courses there are large divots filled with sand, these bunkers are 'hazards' or obstacles for golfers. In most reputable golf courses, you will find that these bunkers have been filled with the Bunker/Leisure Sand. This is due to the fact that Bunker Sand has the desirable texture specifically for golf, you can affordably purchase them in large quantities, and they won't cause any irritation when exposed.
Moreover, because of the size and texture of the sand, they create the perfect bounce for golf balls. In addition to that, because it is so smooth, the golf club will glide through the sand and move it smoothly. This means that any divots created will be deeper and longer, and will do so in a natural way. This effect is not replicated when harder sand is used.
As mentioned before, the Bunker Sand is medium-fine sand, which means you won't have to put much effort in when you have to rake the sand.
Our Soft Play Sand is available to purchase as small 20kh bags that are perfect for smaller projects. We also stock them in bulk bags that can take, approximately, around 850kg of sand.
What are the different Sand options?
There is some important information about sand that is handy to know before purchase. You will find that there is a varied range of sand that we supply and that is widely available in Landscaping and Building supplies centres. It is important to be aware of which type of is required for your project as different landscapes require different types of sand because as we have already established, they come in widely different textures.
As you may already know, sand is a naturally occurring material that is derived over years and years from crushed and eroded rocks. To be able to label the eroded rocks as 'sand' the grains must be between 0.6m and 2mm in size.
Due to the factors stated above sand is a sought-after and popular substance because even though it may look as if we have an endless amount of sand available to us, especially when you see such large quantities of them at beaches and golf courses, over time they will be more scarce and hard to find. The eventual decrease in quantity will encourage us to look at alternative and more environmentally friendly methods and materials to get by.
The sand that we supply and most builders merchants receive is specifically quarried for commercial uses and therefore has to go through rigorous tests and thorough screenings to be able to be labelled as safe for large-scale uses. The screening is vital because it will determine whether there are no sharp objects and unwanted debris in the sand.
You will also see that Bunker/Leisure Sand is very light in colour, a very light beige, not only does that make the environment more visually appealing, it does make it easy when trying to choose between different sands. There is a wide range of sands available, they have their different uses and some are more suited to uses than others, and that's why paying attention to the colour is important. An obvious example of this is the 'Orange Building Sand' - the darker and more orange the sand is, the higher the levels of iron they contain.
There are sands that are labelled 'Builders Sands' that are often used for bricklaying and to line ponds with. There is also plastering sand, which when mixed with water and cement creates a substance that has many uses within landscaping projects.
